20/7 - 16:00 @ stage:
Stage Takedown
action: Takedown Team
All Musiclub and Colorsound instruments have to be taken downstairs and loaded onto
the stage trailer if available, otherwise onto a rented van.
[Loading Team: 4 people, about 2h]
This is the real instruments and lights setup. It involves carrying
everything on stage, or to the mixer console, cabling, testing etc.
No particular skills required. A good chance to learn about cabling up a
PA system.
[Setup Team: 10 people, about 6h]
Sound checks are only relevant for bands. Here is the schedule:
- 14:00 - Cernettes
- 14:30 - Cross Talk
- 15:30 - Bedrock Blues
- 16:00 - SMC2
- 16:30 - [end]
No, there isn't a mistake. The reason why Cross Talk checks for an hour
is that I need to "make" the basic stage and frontline sound on a band
that I know well. The others will only involve "local mods" to that
sound, so they need only half the time.
NOTE: The sound check is NOT a rehearsal! you only
need to go through a couple of tunes to have a feeling for the stage
sound. I'll take care of the frontline.
All sound engineers are should be present, to understand the sound
scheme, otherwise they won't know what to do later.
[All bands, all sound engs.]
The timetable (see programme ) must be
followed strictly, or the last band will drop off the schedule. At most
we are allowed 20mins delay, and only in case of technical
incident.
The slots allocate in the programme include setup. This means that
each band must be able to install, connect, play and clear the stage
within that time. The eventual encore is also to be programmed within
that time. Practically speaking, if you have a one hour slot, you should
prepare a programme for 50mins, considering 10mins setup. Here are few
tips for bands:
- rehearse your programme in REAL TIME, and check timing.
- don't hang about between songs, but leave at most 20 seconds
interval. If possible, joint 2 or 3 songs together. This helps heat up
people dancing.
- tune your guitars before. We will set up a "tuning corner" in the
changing room.
- don't change guitars every other song.
After the Festival we need to save a few instruments from eventual rain
and/or theft. This involves putting away a few, light objects.
I know it's hard to work at 2 in the morning half drunk, but this job
must be done.
[Closing Team: 4 people, about 1h]
Everything back to the locale. All cables folded, instruments loaded
back onto the van. Takedown is simpler than setup but somehow it takes
the same time, particularly because of "the day after" effect.
Beers are on us.
